Death, destruction, poverty and despair increasingly characterise Gaza's present situation. Gaza's children and youth - 50 per cent of the population - are particularly vulnerable. Young Gazans have few or no outlets for recreation, particularly during the long summer months.
For the last three years, UNRWA has responded on an unprecedented scale with the largest ever youth recreational initiative in Gaza. Summer Games provided nearly 250,000 children with a creative learning experience, room for self-expression, and opportunities to develop new skills - foundations upon which the potential for a better future rests.
